Places to visit in Haridwar

Haridwar also called Dev Bhoomi i.e. The Land of Gods. The main places to visit in Haridwar are:

 

1.Har-ki-Pauri.

Har Ki Pauri is a ghat on the banks of the river Devi Ganga. BrahmaKund is a holy place at har ki pauri main ghat. It is believed that this is the main place where the Ganga leaves the mountains and enters the plains. Morning and evening Ganga Aarti takes places at har ki pauri main ghat.

2.Maya Devi Temple.

It is a temple of goddess Maya in the holy city of Haridwar. It is believed that it is a Shakti Peeth. A religious place where the heart and navel of goddess Sati fell in the region, after she was burnt by felling in yagna.

Goddess Maya is a three-headed and four-armed deity. Haridwar was previously known as Mayapuri. The temple is the places of worship where desires get fulfilled.

2.Manasa Devi Temple.

This temple is dedicated to the goddess named “Mansa” in the holy city of  Haridwar. The temple is situated on top of Bilwa Mountain. Uttarakhand has the himalan mountain range and they have the shivalik Hills. And Bilwa Parvat is on the southernmost range. Manasa devi temple is also known as Bilwa Tirth. Manasa Devi is a form of Shakti.  And it is believed to have originated from the mind of Lord Shiva.

3.Chandi Devi Temple.

This temple is dedicated to Goddess chandi devi in the holy city of Haridwar. The temple is situated on the Neel Parvat, Sivalik Hills on the Himalayan mountain range. It is said that Chandi Devi  temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is also known as Neel Parvat Teertha. It is a place of worship where desires get fulfilled. It is one of three such Peethas, the other two are mansa devi and maya devi temples.

4.Daksha Mahadev Temple.

In ancient times, Goddess Parvati had incarnated as Sati, the daughter of  King Daksha. Sati was married to Lord Shiva. King Daksha performed a big Yagna at his kingdom. He did not invite Shiva & Sati to the Yagna. Feeling insulted, Mother Sati burnt herself by jumping in the yagna. Lord Shiva became angry after seeing his wife burning herself by jumpling in the yagna kund. Lord shiva beheaded  King Daksha. After this, Lord Shankar became engrossed in penance.

5.Bilkeshwar Mahadev Temple.

This is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva in Haridwar. Goddess Parvati performed penance for Lord Shiva for many years under the Bilva tree so that she could have Lord Shiva as her Husband. Lord Shiva was pleased with Parvati’s stubborn prayer and granted her wish to marry him. The place is surrounded by Rajaji National Park of Uttarakhand.

6. Bheem Goda Tank.

Pandavas came to Haridwar at the time of Mahabharat period. Bhima felt the need of water. It is believed that he struck his knee on the ground to create a pond of water to quench his thirst. Therefore this water tank has been named Bheem Godha tank.

7. Rajaji National Park.

It is a national park and tiger reserve in Uttarakhand. It encompasses the Shivaliks, the Himalayan mountains range. It is included in Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garwal of Uttarakhand. Rajaji National Park was named after  C. Rajagopalachari, a prominent leader of the Indian Freedom Struggle.
